Wow!I'm a big Cari Silverwood fan, so I went into this book with fairly high expectations - and she blew me away! I'd read some reviews that said this was significantly different from her other work, and I'd agree. It is dark (not a surprise!), but she weaves in paranormal elements in the form of mesmers, men (at least thus far) who are able to "acquire" certain females who are susceptible to their mind control. Zorie is one such woman, but she is differs from the others in that she retains a piece of herself, for lack of a better term, which resists the control.
Zorie's life takes a swift trip downward as a consequence of her acquisition by Reuben (hate him), but two men appear to offer her some sort of help - Mister Black and Grimm Heller. Both have their own secrets and their own agendas with respect to Zorie, but they offer the only hope she has of escaping Reuben. Although much of the story is told from Zorie's point of view, both Black and Grimm get a voice in there too.
I'm not even sure where to start with what made me love this book. When you wake in the morning and the first thing you start to puzzle over is who is really the good guy - Black or Grimm - or is neither - and who should she turn to - and who do I want her to end up with - and why - and how will she get out of this mess - and will she do what Black wants her to - and will she do it willingly - well, you get the picture - you have been well and truly mind-f*cked! When you then grab the book to finish it even though you really don't have to get up for another hour - you are done for!! That's what Wicked Ways did for me - and the ending left me dying to see what happens next.....

If you're looking for a traditional romance with kink or a traditional dark romance about a captured woman who develops feelings for her captor that is not the book for you. Start reading it with an open mind and let it happen to you, you might be surprised by how much you enjoyed that disturbing rollercoaster ride. It's truly a dark story and you should take the warning seriously - don't step into the forest unless you want to meet the wolves. It might be a strange but it really read like a fairy tale with erotica. It's a story of mind messing of the highest caliber with enough realism to chill your blood and disturbing eroticism that left me emotionally confused and in need of more. Great characters (especially Zorie and Grimm), suspense, twists and turns. The author knows how to capture the attention of her reader like the best mesmer (you have to read the book to find more about them) and doesn't let go until the end... when you find that you want more. I'm currently reading the next part and can't get enough.
Hotly recommended to all fans of horror and erotica... with maybe a pinch of romance? Please, tell me that I'm not the only one who found it disturbingly romantic?

After reading Wicked Ways I can honestly say that Cari Silverwood is the epitome of Dark Erotica. As the story progressed, I began to feel like Alice dropped down into a twisted rabbit hole and landing in a dark perversion of Wonderland.
Cari has created a phenomenal cast of characters and a well written unique storyline involving Mesmers that will challenge the reader in ways they couldn’t imagine. Most authors dance around the edges of dark erotica but Ms. Silverwood goes straight for the jugular and makes no apologies! That is why I am sooo addicted to her literary works and Dark Hearts is no exception. Readers will be both shocked and fascinated, unable to put the book down, as they will feel compelled to continue on out of curiosity. If I didn’t know better, I would swear that Cari is practicing some hidden Mesmer skills of her own as she weaves her erotic tales. LOL!!
Everyone who reads this series will come away with different thoughts and opinions about the men in Zorie’s life. I am going to be in the minority here, but I loved Reuben’s manipulation of Zorie and the various sexual acts he made her perform. Zorie’s strength and independent nature called out to him like a moth to a flame begging to be broken. He couldn’t help himself much less walk away from the challenge she presented. Zorie's struggle against his influence is titillating, arousing, and without a doubt some of the best erotica I've ever read!!
On the other hand, I think Mr. Black is worse than Reuben because his agenda is subtle and more devious, not in your face like Reuben. He wants to turn Zorie into a weapon, but will he be able to control her once he is done? Will there be anything left of her humanity? Mr. Black’s plans may ultimately have serious consequences for the human race, not just Zorie. His evil schemes seem far grander than those of Reuben.
And Grimm, well I don’t think he is the knight in shining armor that we are led to believe. He may turn out to be the most evil of all. The way he always seem to be there for Zorie whenever she is in trouble. What is he really up to? He is a hard one to figure out, but there is something about him I just don’t trust.
Dark Hearts is a very intense and intriguing piece of erotica that will stay with you long after you are finished. I recommend this series for the mature & truly hardcore readers who aren’t squeamish about the total violation or annihilation of a person’s self for pleasure or profit. It is dark, disturbing, and loaded with kink that will curl your hair! I am sooo looking forward to the next series/world that Cari will no doubt write!!
